Good Morning...
It's been a rainy night and morning but it has now stopped. Starting to clear a little but very wet. DD & family were planning to come for the parade but haven't heard if they are still coming. I'll take that as a yes they are. I'm planning a lunch here after the parade.
Flowers and garden got a well needed watering. Should help to make things look good.
Today is a day to remember and honor our fallen soldiers and those that have and are serving. My dad was in the army and landed on the day of the invasion. I can't remember which beach it was...either Utah or Omaha beach. He was just a young 17 year old kid and scared of everything that he was seeing happening all around him. He never talked about those days but I know he saw his buddies taken. He was injured and taken to a hospital (can't remember where). He spent a year there recooperating. After he was released from the hospital, he and a buddy were driving somewhere and got hit by another vehicle. He had to go back to the hospital where he spent 2 more months before coming back to the U.S.
Have a great day everyone..........

Good morning
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Some gave all. Big parades here in Yuma, but I'm not going to any of them. I do have my flags out and my flag wind sock hanging on the awning. I'll be going to a gathering at Karens park, that is if I don't get lost.
A load of clothes are swishing away in the washer, some will go in the dryer and some on my lines on the porch. I wish I could just stay home today, I'm not a gathering person but at least I'll know one person. Karen paid for my meal so I can't really back out, that would be so very wrong. There is a pot luck hamburger feed here, but not interested at all.
Just got a text that my one order of chairs should be delivered tomorrow some time. I'm not going to hold my breath. But maybe a threat of a lawyer worked. It is illegal for any to change the shippers address and FedEx does it to me most all the time.
Time for another cup of coffee and one more cookie.

I've been in the kitchen most of the morning getting ready for 6 family members to come. We're planning to grill brats and burgers. It's a cool a.m. here. We had rain later last evening but nothing so far today. It's only supposed to be in the upper 60's. All games will be inside which is normal for us. My uncle served in WW2 stationed in Japan I believe. Fortunately, the war was just starting to end when he was drafted. My DH was drafted just 6 months after we were married but it wasn't war time. He was out before the Viet Nam war started. All gave some and some gave all!!!!
CJ Your dad is to be honored!!! Is he buried in a veteran cemetery? My DH is and they have the flags on each grave. Enjoy time with DD and family. I hope your rain stops.
MAMMA Maybe your consistent phone calls and maybe a hint of threats spurred Fed Ex to do their job. I hope you get your order tomorrow. What kind of cookie did you enjoy with your coffee?
Have a blessed holiday!

Good Morning Ladies - - - The sun is out here today, but it's only 61. It did quit raining in the afternoon yesterday, but I did turn the heat back on and it's still on. Hopefully, I can turn it off again today. I was still cold yesterday, even with it on, I guess it was just such a damp and dreary day. I wanted to make chili yesterday, but then remembered I didn't have tomato juice - glad I remembered before I got the burger out of the freezer. I did buy a gal. of milk on Sat. since it was only a dime more than the half gal., so I made potato soup, and it tasted good and hit the spot also, and I was able to use up some potatoes that needed to be used, so all was well in the end. I also made a pan of baked oatmeal, thinking it might help warm the house with the oven on. Last night I was just starting to watch the Memorial Day special on public TV when the kids called. They were on their way home from her DB's, so I talked to them until they got home - 2 hours and 45 min. later. My arm was getting tired of holding the phone. They have hands free in the vehicle. Good to catch up with them and get a little love from my favorite little guy! That made the evening fly by. My DH was in the Army and also the National Guard. He was in, between war times but did serve in Guam for part of his time. He is not buried in a Vet's cemetery, but they do put flags on all of the Vet graves. They also have a display at the front entrance of the cemetery of flags of the Vet's and also around the courthouse, where the Vet's memorial is. It is so impressive to see them all flying together. CJ and Ellie, enjoy your family gatherings and meal. Always fun to share the food and how much better it tastes when shared. Mamma, good for you, to step out of your comfort zone and go to the outing with your friend. I hope you surprise yourself and have a good time.

Good morning and happy Memorial Day to all. To all who have served and are serving, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The story is that I kept my dad from service. He was drafted and was preparing to depart/report when they learned that my mom was expecting me and he was deferred. My DFIL was a corporal in Korea and, at one time, his mother (Mike's grandmother) had five sons in the service! One son, Charles, was killed in the Phillipines and gave the ultimate sacrifice. My Uncle Johnny was in WWII, but he was in a police force at the end of the war and he always had my Grandma McKim send him chocolate bars as those were more valuable than cash in Europe at that time. Cigarettes, too, he said. DFIL was injured in Korea and was airlifted to Japan strapped on a gurney on the outside of a helicopter just like the scenes we watched from the TV show MASH. For the rest of his life, he had problems--had to have his ear drum replaced and continually had shrapnel working its way to just under the skin on various parts of his body and he would be able to squeeze it out!
CJ, your dad went through so much--how thankful I am for his service to our country!
Mama, don't back out--I am betting/hoping you will enjoy the gathering more than you think.
Elle, it is a cool morning here, too. We got another inch of rain yesterday and the garden and flowers are loving it--so is the yard, we need to mow again But, working in the garden and on the yard will have to work until the sun and wind can dry them a bit. Mike is at the barn working on hay equipment. It is that time of year and since we are home this summer, he and DSIL#2 are going to put it up.
We had a memory-making weekend with the three grandsons. We were able to get some tickets to the Street Outlaws racing at a new drag strip/motorsports park outside Kansas City, MO, at the last minute. We had been wanting to check out this new park for our crew to race at since it is just an hour and 33 minutes from our house, much closer than the other venues where we race which are about 3 hours away. I was able to purchase VIP tickets from a gentleman whose wife was having complications during her breast cancer surgery recovery and he needed to sell his VIP tickets. I felt bad taking advantage of his circumstances, but he needed to sell them and was happy to sell them to us. So, Mike and I went and had a wonderful time on Friday, just the two of us, and then invited all three grandsons to go with us on Saturday. Kids 12 and under were only $5 and we were prepared to shoulder the expense of Eli's full price ticket (yikes because we needed to purchase the same VIP access ticket that we had purchased at discount!), but the track guy couldn't have been nicer and said, nope you have your tickets and you are bringing young folks into the sport, so how about $5 for him, too! And we exclaimed, but he is 16, he's not 12 and under, and he said doesn't matter, $5 it is! Seeing that full-priced adult VIP tickets were $250 each at the gate that day, we were so very thankful. And, Mike and the boys had such a wonderful time together and I did, too, mainly from just watching their enjoyment. Only bad thing out of the whole two-day experience is that Mike ended up purchasing an electric mini-bike! At this brand new track, there are longer staging lanes, longer distances between finish line an pull-off areas for the cars after a race, and then longer to the pit area. And, we are now using our trailer for racing which only has room for the boys' two cars and not the Gator or side-by-side we usually take along to the track to pull them back after a race or to take them up to the staging lanes. But, there is room for this mini-bike/scooter/whatever it is called and we will be able to use it to push/pull them to where they need to go without having them use their fuel which they will have to conserve to be able to race the longer distance at this track. Who would have thought that we needed a mini-bike with all the "tools/toys" he already has!! It is being shipped "free of charge" since we were in the car and not the truck--isn't that a deal--LOL! But, we had a very special weekend that all happened at the last minute. And, they guy we bought them from has become a friend and know that we are praying for his wife and him. We hope to see him at future races or he may even come and watch the boys race.
Yesterday, Mike was proud to honor his mom at the special recognition they do during services on Memorial Day Sunday for church members that have passed since the last Memorial Day. The boys went to church and Sunday School with us and we were so proud to have them meet our church friends. Then, DD#2 met us to pick up Emmett, we took Drew by Sports Clips to get a haircut, went to Sam's for Eli to pick up a big order there for his junior class concession stand (he is Junior class treasurer), brought them back home, Mike did a couple of things to Eli's pickup and then he and Drew drove home--first time since Eli got his license that he had driven to and from our house--it's a little over an hour each way.
Today is a "putzing" day for me. I have had my walk, emptied drinks from the cooler that we took to the races, hung my flowers back up that I had sat on the sidewalk to get rained on yesterday afternoon and now I need to find something productive to do. There is always something to be done so I am sure I'll find something that needs attention.
Wishing all a wonderful Memorial Day and thank you to all of your loved ones who served!

Jane, you came in while I was typing. So thankful to your husband for his service! Do you have "speaker" phone option on your phone (either landline or cell)? I use that all the time, especially with DD#2 who will call most mornings as she leaves her house and talk all the way to work. That way, I can go about whatever quiet business I have to do while talking with them. And, I can lay the phone down and still hear her--and be heard--without being right next to it. Just a thought! Regardless, I know that was the best part of your day talking to family! I was thankful I had a pan of homemade cinnamon rolls in the freezer as that is what we had along with bacon for Sunday breakfast with the boys. I sure didn't have time to make much seeing as we didn't get home Saturday night until late and we had to be at church by 9:15! And there were five showers that had to be taken yesterday morning and laundry to do as I always try to send them home with no dirty laundry when they stay here. Enjoy your day!

Elle...no he is not buried in a veterans cemetery. But where he is, and the plot next to him is where my mom will be, they put flags on all the servicemen's graves. He has a special marker, too, indicating his rank and such.
Oh wow Debbie...that sounds like a wonderful day spent with the grandsons. More memories being made.
Mamma...hope you enjoyed your day out with Karen.
Greenback....wow that's a long time on the phone. I'm sure your kids like to talk. It would be the opposite for me...I'm not a talker and neither is DD. We very rarely talk on the phone. It's always texts.
Icook....the rain finally stopped early morning with cloudy skies, by the time the parade was to start the sun came out then more clouds and the wind picked up and it turned cold. I'm glad I had my sweatshirt for the parade and the grandkids had theirs, but DD & DSIL were in shorts and short sleeves and freezing. But we still enjoyed the parade. My step brother was in Viet Nam and now suffers from quite a few illnesses from the agent orange he was exposed to.
