Good hot and muggy afternoon for all. I really don't know how Mike can take this heat. He told me this morning that they had one of the guys on a job in Decatur go down in the heat yesterday and he remains hospitalized. Bless Mike's heart, he got off an hour early yesterday (wasn't that nice, she said sarcastically) and came home with an almost full lunch box. He just can't eat when it gets this hot. He did eat his watermelon, but that was about it. He took a shower and I had supper on the table by 5:00, so we ate at the senior dinner time. But, he was cooled down and hungry so it was good to have it ready to go. DD#1, Jessica, called shortly after we had finished eating to get some details about the stay next week and when I told her we had just finished supper, she told Eli and Drew they were going to be on old people meal time next week--LOL!
I stopped about 2/3 of the way through my morning walk this morning and got myself a bottle of water to carry along and sip from until I finished. It was either 82 or 86 when I walked out the door at 6:00 this morning, depending on whether you believe my phone or the TV weather gal. I just came in from the pool where the water was bathwater warm (not a problem, just a description) and it was too hot to sit out under the cabana for very long. My computer says it is now 100 degrees. Going to crush up some Oreo cookies to make a couple of icebox pies tomorrow to have on hand for when the three boys are here. Wish I could have made them today, but don't want them to set too long and get soft or soggy.
I scored supper at the clearance bin at Dierberg's (grocery store) this morning. Two chicken street taco packs marked down to half price. They have all the fixin's one could ever want along with them and each makes six street tacos. I have some leftover refried beans from Monday night's supper. Dessert will also be from the half-price section--a whole fruit pizza. It looks great and I couldn't make it for the price they had it marked down at. Voila, supper is served.
CJ, hope Teddy feels better soon. Maybe his throat is sore if he refused to eat and didn't want to swallow the Motrin? Hope your mom listens and drinks plenty of fluids. We could never persuade my mom to drink enough. Hope the transition goes smoothly for DMIL.
Laurie, your day yesterday on the mystery tour sounds like so much fun and, indeed, something I would like--especially the boutique shopping! Sorry about all the frustration with your dad. He and Al seem like complete opposites from the way you describe them and their lifestyle.
Just had a long phone call with #2 so I had better get busy. Tomorrow is turn-in day for the 4-H exhibits for their county fair and Emmett is baking cookies tonight, has pickles to enter that they canned together last night, and is also entering two country hams and a cured bacon. With this terrible heat, DD is so glad they decided to wait one more year for him to enter a steer!
Wishing all a cool rest of your day. Be careful--by the way, the contractor told Mike they would likely be stopping early today, but it is after 3:30 and no word from him yet. Probably just an hour early if it's like yesterday! Love to all....
