1 3/4 C. boiling water
1 C. quick cooking oatmeal
1 C. brown sugar
1 C. sugar
1 stick butter 2 eggs
1 3/4 C. flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 T. cocoa
1 pkg. chocolate chips
3/4 C. walnuts
Put oatmeal in a mixing bowl, add the hot water and stir. Let stand 10 minutes. Note: I always lay the butter in the oatmeal. It melts and is easier to stir.
Add sugars and eggs to mixture and stir well.
Mix flour, soda, salt, cocoa and chocolate chips and add to the sugar and egg mixture. Stir well.
Put mixture in a bundt pan or angel food cake pan that has been well greased and floured (I use an angel food cake pan and don't flour it). Mix the remaining chocolate chips and the walnuts together and sprinkle on top, pressing into the batter lightly.
Bake at 350°for 40-50 minutes.
Let the cake cool for 10 minutes and then turn out onto a plate. Quickly put another plate on top of the cake and flip it again — you wants the chips and nuts to be on the top.
